3D Samples
We use CLO 3D software to sew the CAD pattern on an avatar so you can see what the pattern will sew up to make before taking the time to collect all the fabric and notions, layout & cut, sew, press & fit the first garment! The process of pattern to sample can take a long time to perfect, and this can save a huge amount of cost in the process. We have found the Clo software is a very accurate way to see a first sample, and it is especially useful to do if it is a pattern created from specs and samples rather than a reference pattern block.
The Process
We can re-create an avatar to your specific fit model measurements, or use a general fit avatar based on statistical body data. We import our CAD pattern into Clo to be sewn up. It's the exact same pattern we print and pass to you to sew. We can also choose the fabric to make the digital sample out of, so it mimics the drape and handle of the fabric you plan to use. We have a library of virtual fabrics with realistic properties, allowing you to visualize how different fabrics will behave on your design.
An added bonus to this process is that we can adjust the pattern in Clo in a virtual meeting, so you can see how the garment will look if we add 2 versus 4 inches to length, or drop the armhole, or make the neckline smaller, etc. We can show you simple pattern changes so you can see the results before we adjust and print the pattern for sampling.
The Benefits
So many! Here are a few we can think of to start with...
- Minimize the # of physical samples you make: You can create and review virtual samples in CLO 3D, significantly reducing the need for physical prototypes made from fabric. This saves on material costs, labor costs for sewing physical samples, and shipping costs.
- Faster turnaround: Making changes to a virtual sample is much faster than altering a physical one. You can instantly adjust patterns, change fabrics, and see the results in real-time. This speeds up the entire design and development process.
- Realistic 3D simulation: CLO 3D simulates fabric drape and garment fit with a high degree of realism. This allows you to assess the fit, drape, and overall appearance of your design on a virtual avatar before producing a physical sample.
- Collision detection: CLO 3D can detect collisions between the garment and the avatar, helping you identify potential fit issues like tightness, pulling, or gaping.
- Colorways and styling: You can easily experiment with different colors, prints, and styling options in CLO 3D without having to produce multiple physical samples.
- 360° visualization: You can view your virtual garment from any angle, allowing you to thoroughly assess its design and construction.
- Reduced need for physical meetings: Virtual samples can be reviewed remotely, reducing the need for physical meetings and travel.
- Reduced fabric waste: By minimizing the need for physical samples, you can significantly reduce fabric waste and contribute to a more sustainable design process.
