What will a production marker cost?

Here is a breakdown of marker costs with Dampkring.  For a standard production marker you will be charged:

  1. Order fee of $2.50 which applies to each fabric that requires its own marker. For example, if you have a shirt being cut all one fabric with fuse in the collars and cuffs you would be charged $2.50 x 2 (one order fee for the SELF marker and one order fee for the FUSE marker).  The order fee covers the time for us to process the request and create mini markers for pick up.
  2. Piece layout fee $0.45 per piece when the marker has 50+ pieces, or $0.65 per piece when the marker has less than 50 pieces. This is dependent on how many pieces are in the pattern and how many sizes need to go into the marker.  For example, if you have a basic t-shirt there may be 5 pieces per size (1 x front / 1 x back / 2 x sleeve / 1 x neckband) and you ordered 3 sizes in the marker then we would need to lay a minimum of 5 x 3 = 15 pieces in the marker so you would be charged 15 x $0.65/pc = $9.75.
  3. Paper fee of $2.40 per yard. This is dependent on how long the marker is.  If your marker is 3.5 yards long you would be charged $2.40 x 3 yards = $7.20 for paper.

What is the difference between a size run marker and a production marker?

The difference between a size run marker and a standard production marker is time and effort.

For a production marker we calculate the best possible layout based on your sizes, colours & quantities being cut and take time to lay the pieces as best we can to utilize the fabric as efficiently as we can.  This is what a production factory doing cut & sew wants.

For a size run marker there is much less time & effort to create an efficient marker.  Sizes and pieces can all be mixed together.  Markers will be printed at 56” wide.  By request we can print up to a max. width of 65”, which is the widest we can go to utilize the paper (since we charge by the yard).  We put space between all pieces so they can be cut out individually easier.  This method is usually for designers and sewers that want to cut each piece out and keep on a pattern hook or transfer to hard card.  Size run markers are charged an order fee and paper fee the same as a production marker in points 1 & 3 above.

Can I use a size run marker for production at the factory?

It depends on what you want them to cut, so you should discuss this with the factory before you order from us.  You can only cut the same amount of pieces for all sizes laid in marker – for example if you have S, M & L in the marker and want to cut 15 units of size L then you have to also cut 15 units of size S & M.

The difference in cost is that we charge $0.35 per piece instead of $0.45 per piece for the layout.  If you are unsure if you should order a size run marker or production marker we advise to start by asking the cutter.  We are also happy to chat with you on your specific project needs and advise.
